i know dreams are our brains way of dealing with problems or situations that are occuring in our life.
the experts say it is healthy and to an extent i believe this.
how can it be healthy when you wake up shaking and trying to mouth "jehovah" or "help".
I dream every night, always have done. I experience very vivid dreams which I can recall the next day. Cheese seems to put my brain into overload and turn the normally odd but ok dreams into nightmares.
I read something somewhere about a chemical in cheese that can act as a stimulant - may be someone else knows more than me. I've never needed LSD, give me a Kraft cheese slice for a more far out trip!

I don't know if there is any scientific evidence but I tend to have nightmares if I have eaten cheese. Even if I have forgotten I've eaten cheese that day the nightmares still happen.
I have read that dreaming can be likened to the filing cabinets in your brain being open and shut with the contents flung around. I think this is very apt as our brain is trying to make sense of the contents of our memory banks.

Twenty-one years ago they were being told that they should pass up college and career because the end was coming.
How true is that! I remember being so ashamed at wanting to pursue my education.
An elder in my congregation shunned his daughter for going to university and she still sat in the KH even though her own father ignored her. I was a young teenager at the time and this girl really inspired me - she was gutsy and brave to still stick it out at the KH despite the opposition. It was one of the turning points in my own life and allowed me to make the break from the JWS. I often wonder what happened to her - she was far too smart and knew her own mind. I hope she got out too!
There was also a lot of double standards - brothers could pursue their wordly careers, we had a few examples of successful businessmen, whereas the females were condemned to a life of full time magazine pushing. This was not the future I saw for myself so I decided to take my chances at the big A!

As always, high levels of fear are the crude tactic employed by the borg to keep people trapped. It is emotional blackmail at it's worst and at odds with the 'loving' philosophy continually promoted as the organisational hallmark.

Again, yet another weak argument that somehow being a JW protects someone from going off the rails. This board is testament to the fact that many, many people have left the JWs and gone on to live happy lives and make a positive contribution to society. This does not take into account those who have left the borg and have never visited this board. JWs do not have the monopoloy on morality - this is a cliche I have heard many times. It is yet another example of so called JW superiority which neatly deflects from the true rot at it's core.

it never ceases to amaze me how the mind control of jehovah's witnesses makes their older people feel so guilty about missing meetings.
i mean - they have experiences all the time at assemblies about sister " white hair " barely able to stand on her feet , yet she goes pounding on doors in neighborhoods in inclement weather , perhaps on crutches handing out watchtowers to people.
you hear of how " admirable " it is for a senior citizen impaired in a wheelchair , perhaps on breathing devices - jeopardizing catching a cold by attending metings perhaps among kids with snot running out their nose and coughing in older ones faces.

Thanks for the comments - it's good to be able to vent now and again to people who know what I'm talking about. The irony is that one of the best and most supportive friends of my mum has been her 'worldly' neighbour for whom nothing is too much trouble.
My dad (who has never been a witness) says that he is glad the JWs have disappeared, as like myself, he cannot stomach listening to their fanciful paradise daydreams on a regular basis. I think he would move into the shed if the JWs came calling on a regular basis and doesn't want to encourage this. When he drove them to the meetings he had to suffer a non stop recruitment drive!
Thankfully we have been able to replace the JWs with a re-introduction to old 'worldly' friends and family - this has shown how real love and kindness operates. In fact it has been great in some ways to get the JWs off the scene. My mum doesn't say much about it but I know she is hurt, but as is common, refuses to apportion blame.
Slim: my mum's friends are slightly younger than her but are all lively and active people who really have no excuse. If they themselves were unable to get about I would fully understand, but this lot seem to have made a choice.

This is a topic which really makes my blood boil. My elderly mother, who is in poor health, hasn't attended a meeting for about 18 months to 2 years now. During her almost 30 year service she has done more than her fair share of magazine selling and meeting attendance, often using our car to ferry people around to meetings, assemblies etc. The majority of these people always seemed to think that we had invented a new bio fuel that was free to use - how else would you explain the lack of offers to help with the petrol costs?
In these 2 years of non attendance she has become practically invisible, yesterday's news. The phone calls have stopped and she has a 5 minute visit approximately every six months from some patronising git who brings a Victoria sponge and probably counts time. This is a poor exchange for the time, effort and money given to the WTS. She has been abandoned by her so called friends as she is now too much of a burden to have around.
Does this make me angry? Damn right it does, especially as she makes excuses for them and their lack of interest. I saw this happen to older ones in the congo when I was growing up - no-one wanted to know when they subsequently became a burden.
The hypocrisy is clear to see and makes a mockery of the holier than thou attitude which is often worn like a badge of honour.

It's actually not as simple as that - there are many different factors affecting the pub trade. One of these is the big brewers monopoly which is forcing a lot of independent pubs to close. They can't compete with the prices and facilities provided by a Wotherspoons - just one example.
Also - there is the 'supermarket' factor. There has been a trend towards selling alcohol at really cheap prices - e.g. Asda, so more people drink in the house to save money. As an example - some people may prefer to go to a club having had a few drinks rather than forking out for the over priced and sometimes watered down stuff available at the bar. In some cases the smoking ban has brought in more people, as it would appear there is a grudging acceptance that this is how it's going to be from now on.
Sure the smoking ban will have had some impact, but as Ian said the benefits will far outweigh any disadvantages.

In answer to the 'pish' question - that is indeed correct. It refers to something which is worthless, useless, waste of time etc. You often find the word 'pure' placed in front of it, which is very common.
For example - - That public talk on Sunday was pure pish.
In it's literal sense 'pish' is another name for urine. It is also used to describe urinating - i.e. I won't be long - just going for a pish.
To confuse things even further there is also rhyming slang for 'pish' for those who are more polite. i.e. I won't be long - just going for a 'single fish'.
